THE NATIVE FOREST AT THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN

Time: Tuesday, May 4, 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Location: Meet at Orchid Rotunda in the Museum Building. Rain or shine.
Guide: Jessica A. Schuler, Rob Naczi, and Matthew Pace (347.996.8060)

Walk Description:  Protected since the founding of NYBG in 1895, this old-growth forest shows the effects of its urban environment. Recent research shows that a number of native wildflowers that once grew here are now gone.  See remaining native flora preserved in the forest and view the herbarium specimens of the wildflowers extirpated from the Bronx. This will hopefully lead to discussions for the potential reintroduction and restoration of indigenous species to this gem of a natural area. Free with admission to the grounds (max $6.00, members free)
